The Korean Skincare Brands Worth Stocking in 2026, by Retail Format

14 August 2026 · The Glow Trade

A pharmacist in a mid-sized town sends over her first order list: fourteen brands, one or two SKUs each, most of them lifted from a "best K-beauty 2026" video. Every brand on it is real and most of them are good. The order is still wrong, because fourteen brands at two facings each is a shelf nobody can read from a metre away, and nine of those brands will be a different nine in a year. The same list from a concept store would be roughly right, and from a salon it would be worse.

Brand choice in this category is a retail-format decision first and a brand-quality decision second. The ranking below uses only signals anyone can check: Olive Young and Hwahae data, which European chains list a brand, and what its hero product sells for there.

The short version

  • COSRX has been a 93.2 % subsidiary of Amorepacific since the 755.1 billion won share purchase announced on 30 October 2023, so it behaves like a conglomerate brand: chain distribution, printed RRPs, EU packs, and no territory for anyone.
  • Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun (50 ml) sells on dm.de at 18.95 EUR and carries a Douglas RRP of 21.90 EUR as of 2 September 2026; a brand listed by a national drugstore chain has a public price ceiling, which decides whether it anchors a shelf or fills it.
  • Hwahae's 2025 awards were computed from 660,658 reviews of 196,782 products written between 1 November 2024 and 31 October 2025, which makes a Hwahae category win a better predictor of repeat purchase than any influencer list.

Anchors: the four brands customers name at the counter

An anchor is a brand a customer asks for before she describes her skin. In Europe in 2026 four skincare brands pass that test, and the order matters.

COSRX first. Amorepacific announced on 30 October 2023 that it was buying the remaining 288,000 shares for 755.1 billion won, taking it to 93.2 % after a 38.4 % stake bought in September 2021; the same release put over 90 % of COSRX sales outside Korea, across roughly 140 countries. For a buyer that means dm, Douglas and Flaconi all carry it, the Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence (100 ml) sells at 19.95 EUR on dm.de and 21.99 EUR on Douglas.de against a printed RRP of 29.00 EUR, and nobody will give you a territory. Stock it because customers expect it, keep it to the snail line plus one or two cleansers, and read the COSRX buyers' guide before ordering the whole catalogue.

Beauty of Joseon second. One product carries the brand into Europe, Relief Sun: Rice + Probiotics SPF50+, and on 2 September 2026 Douglas and Flaconi were both selling it 38 to 43 % below the 21.90 EUR RRP, at 12.39 and 13.50 EUR. That is the cost of an anchor: the chains use its hero SKU as a traffic price, so an independent earns on the rest of the range (Glow Serum, Ginseng Essence Water, the cleansing balm) and on advice, never on the sunscreen. The Beauty of Joseon wholesale guide covers the EU pack and which SKUs to skip.

Anua third, and the fastest riser. The Heartleaf 77 % Soothing Toner (250 ml) is a Boots line in the UK, and the PDRN Hyaluronic Acid Capsule 100 Serum took first place in essences, ampoules and serums at the Hwahae Beauty Awards 2025. Anua sells on one ingredient story, heartleaf, which staff can explain in a sentence. Three SKUs cover it: toner, pads, cleansing oil.

Medicube fourth, with a caveat. The Zero Pore Pad 2.0 (70 pads) is at Boots and topped the pad category in the 2025 Olive Young Awards, and the brand's devices pull a beauty-tool customer into a skincare shop. It anchors a concept store or a salon and looks out of place in a pharmacy.

Velocity brands: fast cycles, hero SKUs, no loyalty

The second tier sells on one product for one to three seasons. You buy it for turn. In 2026 the names are Tirtir (cushion), Biodance (overnight collagen mask), Skin1004 (centella ampoule and sun), VT Cosmetics (Reedle Shot), Round Lab (Birch Juice sunscreen, first in sun care at the 2025 Olive Young Awards) and Mixsoon (bean essence). Round Lab is the one with a real chance of graduating to anchor, because sunscreen is a repeat purchase.

The rule for this tier has numbers in it: at most two SKUs per velocity brand, at most 25 % of your skincare facings in the tier combined, and a review every 90 days against the current Olive Young and Hwahae lists. A brand that has dropped out of both gets sold through, never reordered. The 2026 trends article tracks which of these are still climbing.

By format: what changes when the door changes

Pharmacies. The customer wants a reason that sounds clinical and a pack that looks like it. Aestura (Atobarrier 365 Cream, best cream at the 2025 Olive Young Awards), Illiyoon (Ceramide Ato range, sold as a 2025 awards item on Olive Young's global site) and Round Lab fit that brief; they sell on barrier repair and ceramides, words a pharmacist already uses. Add COSRX for name pull and stop at four brands. Skip Medicube, Tirtir and anything with a device or a cushion.

Salons. The shelf sells what the treatment room used an hour earlier, so the brand list follows the treatment protocol. Anua, Skin1004 and Round Lab retail well as post-treatment soothing and sun; Medicube works where the salon already runs devices. Eight to twelve lines total, in retail sizes, next to the till.

Concept stores and K-beauty specialists. The four anchors are mandatory, because the customer who walks in already knows them, and the differentiation comes from the tier below: Abib, Haruharu Wonder, Numbuzin, d'Alba, Torriden, Mixsoon. This is the one format where a chain listing counts against a brand for the second half of the shelf. How deep to go on each is worked through in depth versus variety.

How to read the three public signals

Hwahae awards come from reviews written inside a stated window, so a first place there is a repeat-purchase signal, and its Next Beauty and Rising Trends lists are where the next velocity brand usually shows up twelve months early. Olive Young computes its awards from its own sales data (the 2025 campaign ran on the global site from 1 August to 30 December 2025), so a category win there tells you what Korean shoppers paid for and nothing about whether an EU pack or a European distributor exists.

The EU chain listing is the third signal and the only one with a price attached. Search the brand on dm.de, douglas.de, boots.com or matas.dk. If the hero SKU is there, you have a public RRP and a public promotional floor within thirty seconds, and the EU-labelled version exists. If it is not there, ask your supplier who the responsible person named on the pack is, because Article 4 of Regulation (EC) 1223/2009 allows a cosmetic product on the EU market only once a responsible person has been designated for it. A brand with no chain listing and no answer to that question stays off the anchor tier whatever its Korean ranking.

The brand fit check

Score each candidate before it goes on the order sheet. Two points per line, ten maximum. Seven or more: order it. Five or six: one SKU, one facing, review in 90 days. Under five: leave it for the concept store down the road.

BRAND FIT CHECK brand: ____________ date: ________

1. Name pull Customers ask for it by name, or it holds a
category first place in the current Hwahae or
Olive Young awards cycle. __ /2
2. EU shelf proof A national chain in your country or next
door lists the hero SKU (dm, Douglas, Boots,
                   Matas, Sephora). __ /2
3. Price ladder Hero SKU retails between 15 and 30 EUR in
the EU and the chain RRP sits at or above
the price you plan to charge. __ /2
4. Hero depth One to three SKUs carry the brand, so you
hold three facings of each, not one of twelve. __ /2
5. Compliance EU-labelled pack with a responsible person
address exists for every SKU on the list. __ /2

                                                     TOTAL __ /10

FORMAT OVERRIDES
Pharmacy: line 5 is a gate; a 0 there ends the check.
Salon: replace line 1 with "used in the treatment room".
  Concept store:  for brands 5 to 12 on the shelf, invert line 2;
a chain listing scores 0, no listing scores 2.

Questions buyers ask

How many Korean skincare brands should a new shop open with?

Four anchors and no more than four velocity brands, so eight at most, with three facings of every hero SKU. Add a ninth brand only when one of the first eight has earned a second facing row.

Is COSRX still worth stocking now that it is everywhere?

Yes, for the snail essence and one cleanser, because customers use it as proof that a shop is a real K-beauty shop. It will not make you a margin leader: dm.de sells the 100 ml essence at 19.95 EUR and Douglas prints a 29.00 EUR RRP, so your price sits in a public corridor. Treat it as a footfall line and earn on the brands next to it.

Can I get exclusivity on a Korean brand for my town?

Not on any brand in the anchor tier, and rarely on anything with a chain listing. Territory protection exists for some smaller brands through their European distributor. Ask the supplier in writing which brands they represent under a distribution agreement and whether it restricts other resellers in your country; a supplier who cannot answer that has no exclusivity to give.
